SlimServer as Nagios
When I started buying SlimDevices music players one of my conditions to myself was I had to write software for it.
I do run Nagios, but I always thought it would be nice if I could see important problems on the displays we have all over the house. This script watches for problems with the RAID running our music library, and starts flashing a message on the displays if something goes wrong.
I thought about having it play a klaxon track as well — it would be about two more lines of code — but I can’t see the point of waking up at 3:45 AM to a screeching alarm (we have a player in the bedroom).
Plus, Terri would definitely remove my eyes, then fall immediately back to sleep. (”Did I rip out your eyes last night?” she’d ask me in the morning.)
